The Governor’s Home Town Award...

For more than twenty years the State of Illinois State SealIllinois has recognized community improvement efforts that depend on the voluntary commitment of community residents and organiza-tions. The program called the Governor’s Home Town Award gives statewide recognition to these volunteer efforts for achieving their objectives. The projects must have made outstanding contributions to a community's over-all development and quality of life with heavy involvement from community volunteers. Governor’s Home Town Awards are given in various population and activity categories. This recognition program is administered by the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity for the State of Illinois. .

In the spring of 2006, it was suggested by Diana Eckert, a trustee for Roselle, that an application be made for the Governor's Home Town Award for our AIMS mentor program. The application needed to contain information about the following topics: Community Need - Volunteer Resources - Community Support - Results and Project Funding/Cost Savings.

The application was made for the award, and we were notified in early July that AIMS was selected as a finalist and would receive a site visit by two people who would evaluate our mentor program. On July 19, 2006, a one-hour presentation was made to the evaluators at the Village Hall in Roselle, IL. Several people made presentations at the meeting including the mayor, the local elementary school superintendent, the police chief of Roselle, three mentors, two board members for AIMS, the coordinator for AIMS, and two students who were being mentored.

In September 2006, we Receiving the Governor's Awardwere notified that the Village of Roselle was awarded the Governor's Home Town award for the AIMS mentor program. On September 18, 2006, the Governor's Home Town Award was presented to us in Springfield. On November 27, the Village of Roselle issued a proclamation recognizing AIMS for its efforts in the community. We are grateful for this recognition.
